Backing the Tank

In Lancaster Co., PA , Leroy Martin has run a custom service since late '93. He uses as many as 10 Aqua tanks, sometimes floating 2 and even 3 cows in one day. The key to Leroy's operation (besides his wife and kids) is a water heating system tied to his milk house plate cooler that keeps over 1000 gal. of heated water ready at all times. In the following sequence of pictures, Leroy shows how to raise a down cow in the Aqua tank. These short captions don't include every step. A complete textual description is available for downloading at Instructions - Text

Leroy arrives at the farm. His pick-up bed is loaded with 650 gal. of 100F water and he tows the Aqua tank which carries the accessory equipment (pump, hoses, and tank attachments).

Leroy backs the Aqua tank to the cow. Small tractors, ATVs, or our custom hand truck can be used to back the tank to the cow in the barn.
cow This 2nd calf heifer should be on a soft surface to reduce the chances of doing more damage to herself. From here she will be taken to an isolated place with good footing where she can, if all goes well, regain full strength after walking out of the tank. The Aqua tank is an all-in-one tool. Leroy will show how the tank gently transports this heifer to the selected spot for recovery.
